Born in Durban, South Africa in 1990. Shannon Jeanes moved to Australia in 2001 where she was accepted into The Queensland Dance School of Excellence and completed her Advanced 2 Cecchetti ballet exam in 2006. In 2007 Shannon was chosen as one of four QDSE dancers to perform for the launch of Li Cunxin’s ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’.
Her passion for dance came from her mother, a qualified Cecchetti teacher who introduced her to dance at a young age. In her last year at QDSE she was runner up in the Gold section at the Cecchetti medal awards. In 2007 Shannon was accepted into The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where she trained under Nanette Hassall, Kim McCarthy, Justin Rutzou, Andries Weidmann and Lucette Aldous. In 2009 Shannon was chosen to work with Australian Ballet’s Timothy Harbour in the contemporary creation of ‘A Listening World’ and in 2010 was given the opportunity to perform with the West Australian Ballet Company in ‘Sleeping Beauty’.
Having a Cecchetti background has definitely helped Shannon become a strong, technical dancer enabling her to be a versatile performer.
In 2012 Shannon decided to travel overseas to gain more experience in the U.K and European dance world. In February she auditioned for Northern Island’s contemporary company ‘Maiden Voyage Dance’ and successfully became a member of the company.
